Kumasi.. We're coming!

I know it has been a while, but we are back! We have been visiting Eye of the Lord and The Potter’s Village from 2020-2022. We still plan to support their needs, but we are moving to a different region of Ghana now. This year will we going to a new orphanage call King Jesus Palace in Esaase, Ghana. It is in a rural part of Kumasi and really needs our assistance. Our visit is planned for August 19, 2023. We really need monetary donations to pay for our caterer, desks, and whiteboards that will be installed in each classroom.

We would love to get computer donations to help install a computer lab in each of the orphanages that we assist. Thank you in advance for your continued support.

Until my next post :)

Summer Fundraising Hustle

As we enter into fall I can’t help but appreciate all the amazing fundraising initiatives we have been able to accomplish. This year we started a new partnership with The Potter’s Village of Ghana in Dodowa, Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Dr. Jane Adu founded this orphanage in 2000 with 16 children and 20 battered women. The orphanage currently houses about 120 children and 29 staff members. Recently the orphanage was forced to move out of their old site and is currently living at the unfinished buildings of their new site.

This made our foundation hit the ground running to raise funds for this orphanage in need. We started with a dining to donate at IHOP in June. 20% of the proceeds went to Konim Touch. This was a way for our community to get together, eat, and raise funds to help the children at Potter’s Village Orphanage. In August, we partnered with Honeycomb Poetics to co-host a poetry night. This phenomenal event had poets and vendors from all over New Jersey coming together for a great cause. All proceeds went to Konim and Honeycomb was able to donate backpacks and back to school supplies. Please check out their website for updates on their events at https://honeycombpoetics.com/.

This month we are collecting supplies to ship to Ghana in the beginning of November. If you would like to donate supplies please email us at konimtouchfoundation@gmail.com for more information. Below are the list of supplies we will be donating this year:

  • Deodorant

  • Soap

What Does Konim Touch Foundation Mean?

It has almost been a year since we started our nonprofit! Time has been flying. A question I always get asked is what does Konim Touch Foundation mean. I feel a little remiss that I have not discussed this before. This should have been the first thing I explained when forming our nonprofit. My cousin Stephen Kontoh who is in charge of Public Relations actually thought of our name. Konim stands for the co-Founder’s last names (Jeanette Anim and Princess Kontoh). Touch is used because we look to impact the lives of the children we visit at these orphanages in rural areas of Ghana. We want to personally touch their lives, not be distant benefactors. Lastly, we used Foundation because honestly we liked the way it sounded. It seemed like the best final touch to our name.

We hope that explaining why we chose this name people who volunteer will understand our purpose and will be passionate participants in this cause. If you would like to join our cause. We are launching a membership drive to increase our impact. Membership is completely free, but we ask all members to donate a little time or finances to help us gather toiletries and school supplies.  We could use your support. You can join us by clicking this link:  https://konimtouchfoundation.com/contact.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Real Work Starts Now

Sorry, I have not posted in a while. The end of 2018 was hectic for Konim. I am excited to say that with your generous donations we were able to install the whiteboards in each classroom and supply a bookcase with over 100 books for the children at Eye of the Lord Orphanage. In addition, we continued our tradition of gift bags, packed lunches, and toiletries. We had over 12 volunteers with us this year. Double the volunteers we had last year. I am humbled by the support and the growth we have seen thus far.

In 2019, we are looking to grow in our outreach. We are looking to help another orphanage in a rural area in Ghana. If you have any suggestions/recommendations please feel free to contact us. Also, tax letters are going out this week. It was delayed and that is something we will work on. There is so much to learn and tons of work to keep this nonprofit moving forward. I just appreciate the support and guidance we have receive thus far.

Lastly, yesterday was Ghana’s Independence Day. These 62 years of freedom has shown the resilience, growth, and unity of this country. As Kwame Nkrumah eloquently stated: “We face neither East nor West: we face forward.” My hope is that Ghana continues to face forward and that our nonprofit puts in the work to offer avenues of advancement for orphans in rural areas of Ghana.

Donations have Shipped.. What's Next?

October has been a bit of a hectic month. We received an overwhelming amounts of donations that will help the children at the Eye of the Lord Orphanage when we go January 7th, 2019. It took a few days to pack everything, but we did it ! Everything was packed and shipped to Ghana last Thursday. We would like to thank everyone for their donations and words of support. Our team appreciates you! Starting this nonprofit has not been easy, but we have learned so much already. I personally value the trials and triumphs on this journey thus far.

We are still taking monetary donations to achieve our goal to pay for the catered lunches and purchase the whiteboards to be installed in every classroom. If you are able to donate or tell someone about our non-profit organization please do. Just click “Take Action” and you will be able to donate from there. Also, once there we will be recording our experience at the orphanage and sharing it with you all. I can’t wait for you all to see the joy on these children’s faces because of your donations.

We Got Goals

Konim Touch Foundation (KTF) is really intentional about finding orphanages in rural areas of Ghana in need. We want to build relationships with five orphanages within the different regions of Ghana. These orphanages would be our focus in building KTF’s mission. Our goal is to research and specify what toiletries, classroom equipment, and educational services are needed. When we know their needs we can annually visit one or more to provide the resources they specified. Ultimately, we would love to build relationships with working professionals from all areas within Ghana. Ghana has a plethora of resources. By using Ghana’s resources we want to showcase to these children in Ghana that their homeland has all the resources they need to be successful.

Statistically, Ghana’s enrollment of children in school has grown steadily throughout the years. On September 12, 2017 President Nana Akufo- Addo made high school free for all children in Ghana. He stated “there will be no admission fees, no library fees, no science center fees, no computer laboratory fees, no examination fees, no utility fees. There will be free textbooks, free boarding and free meals, and day students will get a meal at school for free.” This has allowed over 400,00 students to enroll in high school. Even with these advancements children in rural areas are still struggling when away from a school. KTF wants to help with those difficulties. Help us reach our goals by donating through our website. These children need all of us to make a difference in their lives!

We are LIVE

Today is momentous! The website has launched for Konim Touch Foundation Inc.  I am so excited for the opportunity to impact children's lives in Ghana through this nonprofit organization.   For those visiting this website for the first time please look at the video and photos of the children we will be visiting in January 2019.  We will be going to Eyes of the Lord Orphanage again in Nsawam, Ghana.  We will be donating toiletries, food, white boards, and desks to the children in this orphanage.   If you want to help in any way please donate or contact us through our website.

Starting this nonprofit has been a labor of love. My team members and I have worked diligently to become a 501 (c) (3) organization.  Knowing that we will be giving back to children who need our resources encourages us on this new journey.

Recently, I was listening to the podcast Jesus and Jollof by Yvonne Orji and Luvvie Ajayi. Luvvie said something that stuck with me.

"Perfection is the enemy of progress."- Luvvie Ajayi

This phase literally changed my perspective on how to achieve my goals. Instead of waiting for the website to be perfect or for everything to line up I am allowing the process to educate and grow my knowledge of running a nonprofit.  I encourage all of you to pursue what has been put on your heart to do.  Every day you can make something you create better, but if you never share it with the world it will always be just an idea.

Maximize Your Time

We have 24 hours in each day.  Many times I feel like I don't maximize my time because I get consumed by social media or laziness.  I have learned to set goals and work towards achieving them, even if I am fearful of failure.  Fear is normal, but we can not let fear hinder us from pursuing God's will for our lives.  Whenever I am fearful I focus on this scripture verse:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

It uplifts me and assures me that God has already instilled the resources needed to accomplish anything I set my mind too.  Be encouraged. Whatever journey you are on God will make a way if you work towards your goal. It may not happen when you want it too, but it will happen if it is the will of God.

Take the time to put down the phone and make a list of the goals you want to accomplish.  Take the steps to maximize your time by researching, reading or just pursuing what you feel called to do.  It is worth the time and effort. I see the fruits of it already.

New Year's Resolution

We are half way through 2018 already.  What goals have you achieved thus far? Starting this non profit has been an endeavor I never thought I could accomplish.  Seeing my efforts take root has been rewarding.  If you have a business, website, or blog you are looking to start why haven't you started it?  Start it now.  It takes one step to make that dream a reality.   I have learned to be patient and just work my vision.  Work your vision and bring your ideas to fruition.  For the next half of the year, I am looking forward to all the other goals I am striving to achieve.

Looking forward to 2019 we are starting to organize  a fundraiser to collect supplies for Eyes of the Lord Orphanage in Nsawam, Ghana. Since we will be visiting this orphanage again in January we want to make sure we have all the supplies necessary to aid them.  Our goal is to supply chalkboards and desks this year.  Those were the specific needs they specified to us when we visited on New Year's Day 2018.  If you are looking to help us by joining our team or donating please check the website for ways to achieve this.  Also, I would love to hear about the dreams you have brought to life this year. Comment below with your leap of faith stories!
